John Filipe's Goggle Design to be worn in the 2010 Winter Olympics
Thank you to the hundreds of artists who sent in submissions for the adidas goggle design Creative Invite. Artists submitted for a chance to customize a pair of adidas iD2 goggles to be worn by a British adidas eyewear sponsored athlete competing in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Votes have been counted for the goggle design Creative Invite and adidas had the challenge of choosing a winner from the top 10 design finalists.
After much consideration, adidas has named John Filipe (Portugal) as the winner of the Creative Invite!
John had the following to say about his winning design:
This design is basically a dynamic adaptation of the British flag on the googles having in mind the keywords : speed, fire, and ice melting. The British theme in the design is subliminal. My intention was not to make it that obvious, but If you consider those as a representation of the British flag, then you can easily spot the British flag on the googles. But if you are not aware of the British relationship , they can still be a cool pair of googles.
Not only will John receive his portion of $20,000 prize money, his goggle design will be seen around the world and worn by a British Olympic athlete.
We would also like to congratulate our ten highest-voted artists who will receive their portion of prize money as well as a pair of iD2 goggles from adidas.
Thanks again to all artists who participated in this Creative Invite! Be sure to check out our other Creative Invites such as designing new covers for the ila DUSK personal alarm.

Amazing! This design hits the nail on the head! Goggles off to Filipe!

This competition was very disappointing.
90% of it was about either who had the best SMS spamming software, or the most friends on Facebook.
Design skills were a very small factor of this competition since to be seen by the Adidas company you had to be in the top 10, and to get there, you had to get hundreds of dollars worth of votes. (Unless you use an sms spammer software)
If you simply calculate how much time a person has to vote for themselves in 48 hours in order to reach over a thousand votes, you’ll see there’s no way to do it the legal way.
Congrats to John for the win, very nice design.
I hope the Talenthouse people learn from this and change the next competition. At least the final judges should be able to see everything.
It’s pretty simple to do either “one number one vote” or one email address, one vote. or better yet, only talenthouse members can vote. there must be a better way than this.
I think it also explain why the top 10 weren’t published, i don’t think talenthouse wants to show some of those to the public as “top 10 designs”…

G, John only got 6 votes, surely that isn’t in the top 10?

Way to go John! Your design was amazing.
And a big thank you to everyone who participated, great invite and great designs!

Congratulations John!
And thank you “G” for your feedback, we will certainly improve the voting system over time.
To your other points:
– SMS sent through a web portal or software are being filtered out by our SMS partner and do not count, so all votes were real people.
– The design skills are one of the most important factors and the winning design was chosen upon that by adidas as the most fitting to what they were looking for. Getting into the top 10 only reserves you the spot to be for sure looked at by the adidas team but they actually went and looked at all submissions (as did we).
– 15 id2 goggles were sent to the top 10 voted and top 5 designs chosen by adidas (not based on votes but quality).
– On top of that everybody receives their share of the $20,000 prize money based on the amount of votes received and that’s quite a significant amount for a lot of designers who participated but didn’t win.
– The top 10 and all other designs are still visible on the contest page
We are working hard to find a model that serves all participating parties, especially all designers participating, that you get compensated for your work, discover talent and great creative output for the host of the invite.
Please let us know about any further feedback and thank you,
Frederik

HI Frederik,
As i wrote back to Laura,
the following statement is simply not true:
“SMS sent through a web portal or software are being filtered out by our SMS partner and do not count, so all votes were real people.”
Your SMS partner cannot verify or block sms spammers or online calling systems since they usually identify as a “valid” phone number, services that use similar systems such as skype-to-phone for example. The same system is used to attempt to tip votes for TV shows such as American Idol and others.
What I am telling you is a fact, not a supposition. You can ask any TV producer who has worked in phone/ sms votes based shows.
Thanks again for all the explanations, I think talenthouse is a great idea and i hope to participate in many more invites.
Best,
G.

Plus the things that G have said, I would like to let you know I was a finalist between the 10 ones voted, and I gave the info you needed so Adidas could send me the goggles to put design, and I was confirmed by you that you had my information, but just came here and see there’s already a winner.
I´m very dissapointed (don´t know with who yet, if you, Adidas or what) cus’ I don´t know what happened. Wouldn´t imagine to get out of the run of this contest that way.
I think you got a great idea, but actually the system does not work properly.

One detail I forgot to mention. I never received the goggles, and sent that info just when you noticed me days ago.

Hello Ramiro and all participants,
Thank you for your inquiries. I received an email from adidas about them sending the goggles out. They were sent out earlier this week and are in route now. Please keep in mind that the goggles have been sent to finalists all over the world and each pair will take a different amount of time based on how far they are being sent and region each finalist is located.
As you can imagine, adidas was under tremendous pressure to select a winner with the Olympics coming up so soon. They have selected a winner and please know that each of the finalists will still be receiving a pair of the adidas iD2 goggles to keep.
The people at adidas were absolutely amazed by the quality of submissions and you should all be very proud of yourselves for your amazing work.

Very nice design indeed!

Hello everybody,
I just want to know one simple question, actually two.
How many votes all together?
Who get the money from our SMS’s?
If you want fair competitions on the Talenthouse just let everybody vote with their email address for free because this way money gets only people who have skill and time to vote for themselves!
There is no contest in the world where winning design revenue less money then some of the competing designs, that suck!
Nice thing for this competition is that Adidas choose the best designs so my congrets to the winner, well deserve it!!

Hi there and congratulations for the winner of the Adidas Goggles.
I guess I miss understood, I was announced one of the last ten most voted who arrived to the end,I was waiting for a Goggle to arrive via the post and I thought you were waiting for the designs of all 10 last selected, so it was a little bit confusing.
I also sent the address and my Pay Pal account in order to get my share of the price.
Would you kindly explain better weather I should still wait for that Goggle to arrive and when am I getting my shared money price.
Kindly please answer this vague issue.
Yours, Karin Perez from Israel.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:18 am
Same problem here with Karim Perez. No Goggles yet and no shared money. At least the winner’s design is nice.
January 27th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
Karin, Konstantinos, Ana, me. Probably same happened with 6 more designers.
It has been understood that “Adidas had to pick a winner shortly” and all that. That’s alright.
Read that Adidas has a 120 days period for paying the voting share. But, since other rules of the contest said that we would receive goggles to send back with design, and that wasn´t fulfilled, I don´t know how do you call that there, at least here there´s a word for that that im not even interested to mention it. If the other guys envolved in this think like me (and something tells me its like that) we are just designers who accepted this opportunity and just wanted to participate in a clear way. Since that wasn´t possible, and we´re starting to feel mistreated, I think it would fair from you to accelerate at least the payment proccess and show some respect for us.

hi there
I am one of the another finalist.
I have the same question, the same problem (hope not really problem), and still waiting here. I think this is a professional contest which can provide positive action without waiting for complaints from 10 finalists. And by the way, where is the winner? did he had the same situation?
